Open Archive, Washington

Archives have always remained outside the visible part of museums, the one we visit where the pieces of art becomes objects of contemplation. However this unpolluted space of clean rooms would not be possible without the complex systems of classification and storage that take place in the archive.

The proposal rescues these storage systems precisely to transform the exhibition space into a flexible space with infinite configurations and open to debate.

The outer skin of the modules is an archive in itself built with the meshes used in storage systems. This strategy allows any configuration on the exterior walls and a very fast assembly open to any changes in its configuration. In this way, the typical white wall is replaced by a system that radically transforms the way in which we understand the exhibition process.
